Zechariah (Father of John the Baptist) Prophecy

Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke this prophecy:

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has looked favorably on His people and redeemed

them. He has raised up a Mighty Savior for us in the House of His servant David, as He spoke

through the mouth of His Holy Prophets from of old, (See: Jeremiah 23:5-6; Daniel 9:21-24)

that we would be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us. Thus He has

shown the mercy promised to our ancestors and has remembered His Holy Covenant, the oath

that he swore to our ancestor Abraham to grant us that we, being rescued from the hands of

our enemies might serve Him without fear, in Holiness and Righteousness before Him all our

days and you, child, will be called the Prophet of the Most High; For you will go before the Lord

to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the forgiveness of their

sins. By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to

those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Make me to know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.  –Psalm 25:4

Prayer of David for Guidance and Delivery

To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

O my God, in You I trust;

Do not let me be put to shame;

Do not let my enemies exult over me.

Do not let those who wait for You be put to shame;

Let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

Make me to know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me,

for You are the God of my salvation;

For You I wait all day long.

Be mindful of Your mercy, O Lord and of Your steadfast love,

for they have been from of old.

Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;

According to Your steadfast love remember me,

for Your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

Good and upright is the Lord;

Therefore He instructs sinners in the way.

He leads the humble in what is right

and teaches the humble His way.

All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,

for those who keep His Covenant and His Decrees.

For Your name’s sake, O Lord,

pardon my guilt, for it is great.

Who are they that fear the Lord?

He will teach them the way that they should choose.

They will abide in prosperity

and their children shall possess the land.

The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear Him

and He make His Covenant known to them.

My eyes are ever toward the Lord,

for He will pluck my feet out of the net.

Turn to me and be gracious to me,

for I am lonely and afflicted.

Relieve the troubles of my heart

and bring me out of my distress.

Consider my affliction and my trouble

and forgive all my sins.

Consider how many are my foes

and with what violent hatred they hate me.

O guard my life and deliver me;

do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in You.

My integrity and uprightness preserve me,

for I wait for You.

Redeem Israel, O God

out of all its troubles.  –Psalm 25:1-22

Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, Visits Elizabeth

In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she

entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting,

the child leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a

loud cry, “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”

“Why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard

the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy and blessed is she who believed

that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”  –Luke 1:39-45

Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; Let it be with me according to your word.”
Then the Angel (Gabriel) departed from her.  –Luke 1:38  Image Courtesy: EWTN

The Birth of Jesus Foretold

In the sixth month the Angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a

Virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the House of David. The Virgin’s name

was Mary and he (Gabriel) came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with

you,” she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

The Angel (Gabriel) said to her, “Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found favor with Hod and

now you will conceive in your womb and bear a Son and you will name Him Jesus. He will be

great and will be called the Son of the Most High and the Lord God will give to Him the throne

of His ancestor David. He will reign over the House of Jacob forever and of His Kingdom there

will be no end.”

Mary said to the Angel, “How can this be, since I am a Virgin? The Angel said to her, “The Holy

Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the

Child to be born will be Holy; He will be called Son of God and now, your relative Elizabeth in

her old age has also conceived a son and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be

barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; Let it be with me according to your word.”

Then the Angel departed from her.  –Luke 1:26-38

Christmas is Fast Approaching! Are You Ready?  -Image Courtesy: Respect Life Los Angeles

(EWTN) Why Is Christmas Celebrated?

The Church celebrates the ‘marvelous works of God’ through public worship or liturgy

commemorating the great events in Salvation history. The Nativity of Our Lord celebrates the

point in history when the Son of God became Man for our Salvation — an act of loving

obedience to the Father and saving love for us, that will culminate on the Cross.

Imitating Christ Jesus Humility

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit but in humility regard others as better than

yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others. Let the

same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who though He was in the form of God, did not

regard equality with God as something to be exploited but emptied Himself, taking the form of

a slave, being born in human likeness and being found in human form (Luke 2:8-20)

He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death — even death on a Cross.

Therefore God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, so

that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth

and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father!
