Jesus Denounces Scribes and Pharisees

Then said Jesus to the crowds and to His disciples, “The Scribes and Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, so practice and observe whatever they tell you but not what they do, for they preach but do not practice.

They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear and lay them on men’s shoulders but they themselves will not move them with their finger.

They do all their deeds to be seen by men for they make phylacteries broad and their fringes long and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the Synagogues and salutations in the market places and being called Rabbi by men but you are not to be called Rabbi for you have one teacher and you are all brethren and call no man your father on earth for you have one Father who is in heaven.

Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ. He who is greatest among you shall be your servant, whoever exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Matthew 23:1-12

Teaching Children...Train Up a Child in the Way he Should Go and When he is Old he Will Not Depart from It.  Proverbs 22:6  Image Courtesy: The Little Flower

A clean heart create for me God, renew within me a steadfast spirit. Do not drive me from before your face nor take from me Your Holy Spirit.

Restore to me the gladness of Your salvation, uphold me with a willing spirit. I will teach the wicked Your ways, that sinners may return to You. Rescue me from violent bloodshed God, my saving God and my tongue will sing joyfully of Your justice.

Lord, you will open my lips and my mouth will proclaim Your praise.

For You do not desire sacrifice or I would give it; a burnt offering you would not accept. My sacrifice O God, is a contrite spirit, a contrite humbled heart, O God you will not scorn. Psalm 51:12-19

WealthJesus Christ became poor although He was rich so that by His poverty you might become rich.  2 Corinthians 8:9  Image Courtesy: Franciscan Friars

Jesus said to His disciples: “Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God.”

When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished and said, ‘Who then can be saved?’

Jesus looked at them and said, “For human beings this is impossible but for God all things are possible.”

Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, ‘We have given up everything and followed you. What will there be for us?’

Jesus replied, “Amen, I say to you that you have followed me, in the new age when the Son of Man is seated on His throne of glory, will yourselves sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel and everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more and will inherit eternal life but many who are first will be last and the last will be first.” Matthew 19:23-30

Blessed Virgin Mary“Mary is Taken Up to Heaven, a Chorus of Angels Exults.”

While He (Jesus) was speaking, a Woman from the crowd called out and said, ‘Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.’

Jesus replied, “Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and observe it.” Luke 11:27-28

Mary Visits Elizabeth

During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth – When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb and Elizabeth filled with the Holy Spirit cried out in a loud voice and said: “Most blessed are you among Women and blessed is the fruit of your womb and how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”

The Canticle of Mary

Mary said, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.

For He has looked upon His handmaid’s lowliness, behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.

The Mighty One has done great things for me and holy is His name.

His mercy is from age-to-age to those who fear Him.

He has shown might with His arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.

He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly.

The hungry He has filled with good things, the rich He has sent away empty.

He has helped Israel His servant, remembering His mercy according to His promise to our fathers, to Abraham and ti his descendants forever.” Luke 1:39-55
