(FOX News LA) Pope Francis, the former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, Argentina delivered his first blessing to a huge crowd estimated at more than 100,000 that had braved a cold rain by first thanking his predecessor Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI for his service to God and the church, then seeking a favor of the faithful to “ask God to bless me.”

Pope Francis speaking Italian joked with the crowd before delivering his blessing saying, It seems that my Brother Cardinals went almost to the end of the world to find a pope.

Pope Francis, entered the Society of Jesus in 1958 obtaining a licentiate in philosophy and was a philosophy professor, subsequently was ordained as a Priest in 1969
