Packaged Lettuce Dangers, What’s In Your Salad?

News tests by Consumer Reports have found high levels of bacteria in packaged leafy greens that could indicate unsanitary conditions.

Tests conducted by an outside lab found that 39% of the samples contained levels of Coliform bacteria considered higher than acceptable by industry consultants. Some 23% of the samples contained Enterococcus bacteria.

Consumer Reports said that these bacterias do not generally make people sick but they could signal inadequate sanitation.
