(Daily Caller) A Mississippi man Muhammad Oda Dakhlalla, entered a guilty plea on Friday to conspiring to provide material support to ISIS — According to the Dept of Justice (DOJ) memo Dakhalla began dating a a girl named Jaelyn Young in the Spring of 2014, she soon converted to Islam and began wearing a burka.
Following Young’s conversion, she soon distanced herself from her family and friends having been brain-washed into believing that spending time with non-Muslims would be a bad influence on her. According to the DOJ memo “Dakhlalla taught Young how to pray and to recite the Quran in Arabic–Young began watching YouTube videos about Islamic law.”
The couple began watching ISIS propaganda and were radicalized. The FBI discovered a pro-ISIS Twitter handle allegedly run by Young–the FBI began communicating with Young online.
“During these interactions,” the DOJ memo reads, “Young announced that she was preparing for ‘Hijjrah’ a reference to journeying to the Islamic State and further stated, ‘I have hijjrah partner and we’re planning to leave before August’ and that ‘We just have to be careful because the NSA is launching new investigation programs and I don’t want to be trapped here.”
The couple allegedly planned to help ISIS with medical care and communications, planning to travel overseas to assist ISIS. The DOJ said that Dakhlalla expected to go to a military training camp upon arrival and said that he wanted to learn “what it really means to have that heart in battle.”
After purchasing airfare to Turkey, the couple believed they would be taken to Syria but instead where arrested at the airport in Columbus, Mississippi just before boarding their flight last year.
Dakhlalla and Young had left behind ‘incriminating farewell letters’ explaining that they never would return, with Young acknowledging her role as the planner of their trip and that Dakhlalla was going as her companion of his own free will, the DOJ memo stated.
Sentencing for Dakhlalla has not yet been scheduled.
