If you said 5 or 105 that is just fine under the Obama Administration’s new ‘Common Core’ national curriculum that the Fed’s will impose on American public school children this year–yet another reason why my 6 year old will be attending Catholic School again this school year. I digress.
“We want our students to compute correctly but the emphasis is really moving more towards the explanation and the how and the why and can I really talk through the procedures that I went through to get this answer,” explains Amanda August, a curriculum coordinator in Grayslake, a suburb of Chicago.
Only in America: Under the Fed’s Newest New Math, getting the correct answer in math just doesn’t matter any longer as long as children can explain their convoluted reasoning how they arrived at the wrong answer.
