Borrowing the phrase turn the page on Iraq from his 2007 presidential campaign, this evening during prime time, President Obama lectured Americans from the Oval Office about his decision to end the combat mission in Iraq to the U.S. economy.
“President Obama had an opportunity during his Oval Office address on Iraq to show that he has finally learned something about American security in the hard world of international geostrategy,” writes former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton in his article Obama Wrecked Iraq instead the President has chosen to ignore the consequences of his actions, by withdrawing American Forces which emboldens the enemies of peace, security and freedom in the region.
Ignoring the warning of Iraq’s top General Babaker Shawkat Zebari that U.S. Forces stay until at least 2020 to help secure the country, instead Obama dismissed the realities on the ground, placating to his Democrat-Socialist isolationist base which believes that an end of combat operations will result in a successful conclusion of the war with peace and stability in the country.
