DHS Chief Napolitano: Military to Aid Civilian Cybersecurity

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Dept of Homeland Security (DHS) Chief Janet Napolitano has confirmed that Super Secret Spooks from the Dept of Defense—Natl Security Agency (NSA) will be engaging in joint operations with DHS to aid in domestic civilian cybersecurity matters—sounds a heck of a lot like spying on Americans?

Napolitano assured privacy advocates that DHS is very cognizant about privacy and civil liberties issues, claiming that it has incorporated into the agreement between DHS & NSA a memoranda requiring safeguards to defend citizens rights, whatever that is supposed to mean?

What’s wrong with the 4th Amendment isn’t that sufficient for DHS & NSA?

In 2009 DHS published an unclassified indictment of Conservatives for stoking Rightwing Extremisim which asserts with no evidence that an unquantified “resurgence in rightwing extremists recruitment and radicalization activity” is due to home foreclosures, job losses and the historical presidential election.

Trampling on Civil Rights—on Tuesday I wrote here that DHS is now rolling out a fleet of Roaming XXX Full Body Scanners that may see through homes, other structures and peek through your clothes.

United Nations Special Reporter Criticizes Chinese Communist Party Persecution of Falun Gong

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Falun Gong members demonstrating in front of The White House 09 October

The recently appointed UN Special Reporter on Freedom of Religion or Belief Heiner Bielefeldt has spoke out against the mistreatment and persecution of the Falun Gong in China

A series of internal Chinese Community Party documents, some of them posted online reveal the details of a new three year, multi-billion dollar campaign targeting Falun Gong Practitioners across China

The campaigns stated goal is to “transform” 75% of all known practitioners which numbers in the tens of millions despite 11 years of brutal suppression. Specifically, the campaign calls upon security forces to go into “villages and households…to educate and conquer” Falun Gong Practitioners.

“Transformation” is a euphemism forcing practitioners to renounce Falun Gong and pledge allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party—as part of the transformation process individuals are typically subjected to physical and psychological torture, such as Sun Min of Beijing—On the 22 April, 2009 Chinese authorities abducted Ms. Sun from her home after her husband had been detained for distributing DVD’s  related to Falun Gong. Within hours of Ms. Sun being arrested, she was found dead.

Obama Yearning That America Becomes More Like China

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Earlier this month President Obama said that the United States should be more like China, proposing yet another jobs bill to spend $50 Billion Dollars for repairs to the nations infrastructure, promising to create jobs in construction, manufacturing and retail industries, saying that China spends much more on roads, rails and related projects than the United States.

Huh? How has China spent money on capital improvements? Are the Chinese better off than Americans?

Obama is naive and disingenuous
, money just doesn’t grow on trees, you get what you pay for. Whatever happened to the $787 Billion Dollars actual $862 Billion Dollars for all of those shovel ready projects that were promised to “create or save” 3.5 million jobs by the end of this year?

Economists have known for decades that public works projects are a poor way to create jobs and stimulate the economy, by the time public works projects come online, most recessions are long over. Nearly 20 years ago Bruce Bartlett, Economist and Domestic Policy Adviser to President Ronald Reagan wrote in National Affairs–Public Interest that public works programs cannot be triggered and targeted in a sufficiently timely manner to compensate the cyclical fluctuations  in employment and economic activity; public works projects have had minimal impact on unemployment; the duration of employment for individual workers, is too short to provide meaningful economic relief; public works projects are extremely costly–the cost for generating a construction job for one year ranges from $70,000 to $198,000 (1980 dollars, adjusted for inflation it would be $185,000 to $525,000 per job) Burce Bartlett–Capital Gains and Games Why Public Works are a Poor Stimulus and Why we Still Need Them

Why has President Obama only sought $50 Billion for Infrastructure improvements? What does he really want the money for? Why not reallocate the $191 Billion Dollars remaining from his 2009 Economic Stimulus boondoggle instead?

It’s been estimated to make actual infrastructure improvements to our nations roads, rails and air transportation will cost $262 Billion Dollars annually through 2035 and not what President Obama has sought, in order to be more like China.
